Singular nouns referring to plural things in German?

It works the same as English. You can say My Chemical Romance is my favorite band and you can also say My Chemical Romance are a great new group. It makes no grammatical difference because in one sense you are referring to the band as a single unit and in another to the members of the band in a group. I would make it easy on myself and say RAMMSTEIN ist aber kle but Die Toten Hosen sind sehr lustig.
