How to become a firefighter?

i live in south fla and was wondering what i can do to become a fireman. i kno i can take the fire training with the fire dept. but i also saw you can go through a college and get your emt and paramedic certification first. i want to do this as fast as possible but also want to have the best possible chance to get hired. in the end i want to move to california to be a firefighter because they are paid more out there. what are the california qualifications needed?
